About The Artists

Sheree and Russell

Sheree Nielsen's love of the ocean, art and photography began as a young girl. At the tender age of six she constructed a pinhole camera – her first exposure to the wonderful world of photography. A natural ability to draw and a keen eye for detail kept her interest throughout college. Family vacations to the Florida Keys rekindled her love of the ocean, time and time again.

Russell Nielsen's connection to water began as a teenager, spending many summers as a lifeguard. His wife's passion for the sport of scuba diving steered him in that direction. An adventurous streak and 'no fear' attitude resulted in Russell's award-winning photo of a ten-foot long black tip reef shark (pregnant) taken on a dive site in Great Guana Cay, Bahamas.

Together, the couple is passionate about exploring the tepid waters of the Caribbean teaming with abundant macro life, as well as large animal encounters. They've shared personal space with dolphins, stingrays, sharks and turtles, as well as spotting vibrantly colored seahorses – a feat less than 25 percent of divers have been fortunate to witness.

Whether strolling Southeastern seashores, searching for rustic barns in the Midwest countryside, or watching Keeneland's early morning workouts of horses and their trainers, the couple enjoy photographing the universality of Mother Earth.
